What NISN Is and Why It Matters
The Nomor Induk Siswa Nasional (NISN) is a unique 10-digit identity code, valid for life, for every student in Indonesia. It is issued nationally and integrated into the education system, recorded from basic education through university.
NISN is needed for many important matters: SNBP and SNBT registration, KIP Kuliah applications, BOS and Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) disbursement, and reporting new-student data to the Higher Education Database. Without a valid NISN, many education administrative processes can stall.
How to Check NISN by Name
This method suits those who forgot their NISN number. Open a browser on your phone or laptop and visit the official site nisn.data.kemdikbud.go.id. Choose the Search by Name menu, then fill in your identity completely and correctly: student name as on the birth certificate or diploma, birthplace, birth date, and mother's maiden name.
Tick the I'm not a robot captcha, then click Search Data. If the data is accurate, the system immediately shows the 10-digit NISN along with the student name, gender, birthplace and date, and school active status.
How to Verify NISN by Number
If you already hold a NISN number but want to confirm its validity, use the Search by NISN menu on the same site. Enter the 10-digit NISN and your mother's maiden name, complete the captcha, then click Search Data.
The system will display the student details recorded centrally. This is useful to confirm the number you have been using is truly active and matches your identity — important before registering for university admission selections or applying for education aid.
Fixes When NISN Data Is Not Found
Don't panic if the search shows no data found. First, check spelling: make sure the name, birthplace and date, and mother's maiden name exactly match the birth certificate or family card — a single wrong letter can make the system fail to find the data.
If the spelling is correct but data still doesn't appear, immediately contact the Dapodik operator or administration office at your school of origin. They are authorized to correct and re-sync student data centrally so the NISN appears correctly. For complicated cases like duplicate data or school transfers, also report to the local Education Office.
