Registering an NPWP From Your Phone, No Tax Office Visit
Getting an NPWP (Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak), Indonesia's Tax Identification Number, no longer requires queuing at a Tax Service Office. The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) provides online NPWP registration through its official site ereg.pajak.go.id, accessible from phones and computers.
The service is free, and all data connects directly to the DJP system and the civil registry (Dukcapil). If the documents are complete and the data matches the national ID card (e-KTP), verification is usually completed within 1–3 working days.
Document Requirements for an NPWP
The required documents depend on the taxpayer's status. For employees or individuals without a business, an e-KTP is enough. Entrepreneurs or freelancers need to add a business certificate (SKU) or a Business Identification Number (NIB).
Married women who want an NPWP separate from their husband's should prepare the husband's NPWP, the family card, and an asset- and income-separation agreement. Foreign nationals use a passport plus a KITAS (limited-stay permit) or KITAP (permanent-stay permit). Also prepare an active email address and phone number, since all notifications are sent by email.
Steps to Register an NPWP Online
First, open ereg.pajak.go.id and click “Daftar” (Register), then enter an active email address. The system will send an activation link — open the email, click the link, and log in with the account you created.
Next, choose the taxpayer category that fits (individual, corporate, or treasurer) and fill in the form: national ID number (NIK), full name, home address, employment status, and income source. The NIK is verified automatically against Dukcapil data, so make sure everything matches the e-KTP.
Then upload the required documents, such as a photo of the ID card and other supporting files, clearly so officers can verify them easily. Finally, tick the declaration, request a token, and click “Kirim Permohonan” (Submit Application). You can track the status through the Status Pendaftaran menu using your email and token code.
How Long It Takes and Who Must Register
If the application is approved, the digital NPWP is available as a downloadable, printable PDF, while the physical card is mailed to the home address within 1–14 working days. The registration status can be checked anytime on the same site.
Who must register? Anyone whose income exceeds the PTKP (Penghasilan Tidak Kena Pajak, the non-taxable income threshold) should get an NPWP promptly. The current threshold is IDR 54 million per year for single taxpayers, plus IDR 4.5 million for married status and IDR 4.5 million per dependent (maximum three). Late registration can result in administrative sanctions.
An NPWP is also an important requirement for many affairs, from bank loan applications and job applications to filing the annual tax return. If you run into trouble during registration, contact Kring Pajak at 1500200 or visit the nearest Tax Service Office.
