124,000 Citizen Cases Resolved Since 2024
Indonesian Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir has affirmed that protecting Indonesian citizens (WNI) abroad will remain the top priority under his leadership. The commitment came after the Foreign Ministry resolved around 124,000 citizen cases over the past two years.
"From 2024 through September this year, the Foreign Ministry has resolved around 124,000 cases involving Indonesian citizens abroad," Nasir said in his first press statement after the handover from Sugiono in Jakarta.
Nasir stressed that behind the figures are families and parents waiting for their children to come home safely. To uphold this priority, the ministry will accelerate crisis response and strengthen integrated digital services for citizens overseas.
What an Indonesian Passport Means
In his remarks, Nasir emphasized what state presence means for every Indonesian passport holder. "An Indonesian passport must mean one thing: wherever you are, the state is always behind you," he said.
According to Nasir, citizen protection embodies the mandate of the 1945 Constitution to protect the entire Indonesian nation, and will continue to anchor Indonesia's principled diplomacy.
Beyond protection, he noted that safeguarding citizens also contributes to national resilience, a priority of Indonesian diplomacy and economic policy. The handled cases include migrant worker protection, evacuations from conflict zones, and legal assistance in various countries.
Nasir's Diplomatic Direction
Nasir also outlined Indonesia's foreign policy direction. He said Indonesian diplomacy will continue to be optimized to advance the strategic agenda of President Prabowo Subianto's leadership and national development priorities.
On the multilateral front, Indonesia is pushing for UN reform to make the body more transparent and efficient, and has formally nominated itself as a candidate for a non-permanent UN Security Council seat for 2029-2030. Support for Palestine will remain consistent with the constitutional mandate.
Nasir formally took office after signing the handover at Gedung Pancasila, Jakarta, replacing Sugiono, who has been appointed Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
