Daniel Marthin Reports Elbow Pain After Training
Bad news came from Indonesia's men's doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin at the 2026 Denmark Open. The 2026 Asian Games gold medalists withdrew after Daniel Marthin suffered an elbow injury.
The withdrawal was announced just hours before their scheduled round-of-32 match against China's Chen Bo Yang/Liu Yi on Tuesday (13/10/2026), sending the Chinese pair through on a walkover.
Indonesia men's doubles coach Antonius Budi Ariantho explained the timeline: "Daniel Marthin reported to me that his elbow hurt after training in the main hall."

Physio Treatment, but Pain Persists
The Indonesian team had tried everything. Daniel received physiotherapy and other treatment before his condition was reassessed on the morning of the match.
But the pain level was still high, making it impossible to play. "He was treated by the physiotherapist with physical therapy and other measures, then tried to play this morning — the pain level was still high," Antonius added.
The final call was made: pull Leo/Daniel out of the Denmark Open so Daniel can focus on recovering.
Focus on Recovery
The elbow injury is a blow for Leo/Daniel amid their European tour. The pair are expected to recover and return for upcoming tournaments.
Withdrawing from the Denmark Open is the realistic move for the long term — playing through the injury risked aggravating Daniel Marthin's elbow.
Indonesian badminton fans now await news of Daniel's recovery, hoping the Asian Games gold-medal pair return to their best.
A Dark Day for Indonesia's Men's Doubles
Leo/Daniel's withdrawal capped a dark day for Indonesia's men's doubles on day one of the 2026 Denmark Open, with three other pairs also falling in the round of 32.
Ali Faathir Rayhan/Devin Artha Wahyudi lost 14-21, 20-22 to China's Hu Ke Yuan/Lin Xiang Yi, Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani lost a decider to Japan's Hiroki Okamura/Kyohei Yamashita, and Raymond Indra/Nikolaus Joaquin fell 19-21, 17-21 to England's Ben Lane/Sean Vendy.
The only Indonesian men's doubles pair left is Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, who open on day two against Denmark's Kim Astrup/Andres Skaarup Rasmussen.
