Border Security Task Force on the Eastern Frontier

The Yonif 645/Gardatama Yudha Task Force serves as the Republic of Indonesia-Papua New Guinea (RI-PNG) Border Security Task Force (Satgas Pamtas) deployed across Yalimo Regency, Highland Papua, with its Tactical Command Post (Kout) located in Elelim. Beyond their primary mission of maintaining border security, the task force actively conducts social activities for local residents.

In September 2026, the Yonif 645/Gardatama Yudha Task Force collaborated with the Elelim Puskesmas to host free healthcare services for residents of Elelim District. The initiative, led by Deputy Task Force Commander (Wadansatgas) Infantry Captain (Kapten Inf) Bambang Ndaru Ardiansyah, formed part of efforts to strengthen ties between soldiers and the community in their operational area.

The accident at KM 136 represents a profound tragedy for TNI ranks serving on Indonesia's eastern frontier, amid mountainous terrain well known for being demanding and prone to traffic accidents.
