Bunker-Like Disguised Base
The police Task Force (Satgas) of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026 successfully raided a bunker-like disguised hideout belonging to the Armed Criminal Group (KKB - Kelompok Kriminal Bersenjata) Kodap VIII Soanggama in the forest area of Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua, on Saturday (10/17/2026). The honai (traditional Papuan wooden house) utilized as a secret headquarters was discovered in a forested area between Kulindigi Village and Bulage Village, Sugapa District. This operation was part of a security patrol in vulnerable areas carried out by the task force across the Intan Jaya sector.
The results of the operation were officially announced on Monday (10/19/2026). The wooden structure was intentionally built to blend seamlessly into its surroundings: dense trees, mounds of earth, and thick shrubs made the honai virtually invisible from a distance, resembling a defensive bunker.
Evidence Seized
During the search, the joint team seized key strategic evidence: 559 spent cartridge casings of 5.56 mm caliber, two disassembled rifle sets containing a barrel, a buttstock, and small components, three manual rifle pumps, a karambit knife, and a Morning Star flag.
Officers also secured crucial documents: a report from the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB - Tentara Pembebasan Nasional Papua Barat) Kodap XIX Kemabu Intan Jaya addressed to the Uwia Battalion, a notebook bearing the stamp of the TPNPB Bula Battalion Rifle Company A Tanah Merah Kodap VIII Intan Jaya, and an ammunition transaction ledger. Several electronic devices, noken (traditional woven bags), and a black-and-red jacket were also confiscated.
Destroyed on Site, Forensics Underway
Following an inventory of the site, the honai was destroyed on location to prevent it from being reused as a base or transit point by the armed group. All seized evidence is currently undergoing thorough forensic examination and investigation to verify its origin.
Head of the Public Relations Task Force for Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Senior Commissioner of Police (Kombes Pol) Yusuf Sutejo, stated: “A thorough inspection was conducted on the disguised honai in Intan Jaya. All evidence, including 559 spent rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, firearm parts, and armed group organizational documents, has been secured for further in-depth forensic investigation.”
Head of Operation Peace Cartenz-2026, Police Inspector General (Irjen Pol) Faizal Ramadhani, connected this discovery to the police force's commitment to dismantle illicit arms and ammunition supply chains in Papua through scientific crime investigation. Joint personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Indonesian National Police (TNI-Polri) urged residents in Intan Jaya to remain calm, stay alert, and report any security disturbances via official police reporting channels.
