Politano's Early Strike Cancelled by Hauge

Napoli edged a thrilling 4-3 duel against Bodø/Glimt in UEFA Champions League 2026/2027 league phase matchday 3 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, Naples, early Wednesday (21/10/2026) WIB. Seven goals were scored in a dramatic encounter decided only in the closing minutes.

The hosts struck very early. Matteo Politano scored in the 2nd minute to send the Naples crowd wild. But the lead did not last: Jens Petter Hauge levelled at 1-1 in the 27th minute and silenced the stadium.

Napoli retook the lead just before half-time. Scott McTominay scored in the 41st minute to put the Partenopei 2-1 up at the break. The goal was special as the midfielder's first since undergoing heart surgery.

Second-Half Drama Until the Own Goal

Bodø/Glimt refused to surrender in the second half. Andreas Helmersen levelled at 2-2 in the 63rd minute and threw the match wide open again. The Norwegian visitors showed remarkable mentality despite playing at the home of one of Italy's giants.

Scott McTominay was Napoli's hero once more. The Scotland midfielder scored his second in the 75th minute to put the hosts 3-2 up. The brace completed a special night for the player in his comeback match at Europe's highest level.

Napoli's victory was finally sealed in dramatic fashion in the 88th minute. Odin Lurås Bjørtuft scored an own goal that made it 4-2 and practically locked up the three points for the hosts. Sondre Fet added a late consolation in the 90th minute plus four, but it was too late for the visitors.

First Win and McTominay's Night

The 4-3 victory was Napoli's first in the Champions League this season. The Partenopei had previously lost to Arsenal and Villarreal, making the three points against Bodø/Glimt vital to keep their hopes of progressing from the league phase alive.

The night also belonged to Scott McTominay. His two goals — his first since heart surgery — proved the midfielder's resurgence and dedication to returning to his best. The Naples crowd gave him a warm reception for his fight.

For Bodø/Glimt, the defeat was painful after twice fighting back to level. But the late own goal proved the difference, and the Norwegian side returned home pointless from their trip to Italy.
