Afternoon Strike on an Internet Shop
Myanmar's military carried out an airstrike on a Starlink internet shop in Thit Gyi Taw Village, Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, on Friday (10/16/2026) at around 3:00 p.m. local time, using jet fighters and helicopters.
The victims were people using the internet at the shop as well as young children from houses near the site. According to the independent outlet Khit Thit Media, cited by Global Arakan Network on Saturday (10/17/2026), the death toll has reached 15 civilians, including children — 14 from Thit Gyi Taw Village and 1 from Thit Kauk Seik Village.
Toll Still Being Verified
Local residents say the death toll could still rise, as the exact list of victims is being verified. The situation on the ground remains chaotic: military drones keep hovering over the village, panicked villagers are fleeing, and phone lines have been cut off.

The strike is part of the Myanmar junta's escalating aerial campaign against areas accused of supporting the armed resistance. UN investigators (IIMM) reported in August 2026 that Myanmar's military was increasingly attacking civilians with drones, motorized paragliders, and low-cost aircraft, with a significant escalation ahead of elections scheduled for December–January.
Myanmar's military has not commented on the Yesagyo strike.
