158 Years 9 Months Per Defendant
A judge in Mexico on Friday (10/16/2026) sentenced three men to 158 years and nine months in prison each for the murders of two Australian surfer brothers and their American friend in Baja California in 2024.
The three defendants — Jesús Gerardo García, nicknamed "El Kekas," Irineo Francisco "N," and Ángel Jesús "N" — were found guilty a week earlier of murder, aggravated robbery, robbery with violence, and violent vehicle theft.
Motive: Car Tires, Bodies Dumped in a Well
Prosecutor María Elena Andrade said the perpetrators initially intended to steal tires from the victims' pickup truck while they were camping near Punta San José beach, about 80 kilometers south of Ensenada.
All three victims were found dead with gunshot wounds to the head after a days-long search assisted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Their bodies had been dumped into a well more than 15 meters deep.
Family Attends, Defense to Appeal
The brothers' parents, Martin and Debra Robinson, flew from Australia to attend the trial in Ensenada, which began last September. They established the Callum and Jake Robinson Foundation to honor their sons.
Baja California surfers' association chief Antonio Otañez welcomed the verdict as justice served, but warned the case has made many tourists afraid to visit. According to ABC reports, the defense will file an appeal against the sentences.
