Early Morning Raid in Penjaringan
The Directorate of Drug Crimes of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri), alongside the National Narcotics Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BNN RI), raided a discotheque in the Penjaringan area of North Jakarta early Saturday morning (17/10/2026). According to detikcom observations, the investigative team arrived at the venue around 00:35 Western Indonesia Time (WIB) and immediately inspected patrons' tables, instructing everyone to remain in their places.
This large-scale joint operation mobilized 462 personnel, comprising 146 members of the Directorate of Drug Crimes of Bareskrim Polri (Dittipidnarkoba), 95 Public Patrol and Security Directorate (Sabhara) officers, 32 Internal Police Provost (Provos) personnel, 29 Internal Affairs (Paminal) personnel, and 160 BNN officers. The operation was led directly by the Director of Drug Crimes at Bareskrim Polri, Brigadier General (Brigjen) Kristian Parluhutan Siagian, alongside the Acting Deputy of Eradication at BNN, Adri Irniadi.
Several visitors appeared startled when officers arrived. Officers announced that inspections would be carried out on individuals, belongings, and venue rooms as part of a narcotics crackdown targeting nightlife venues.
Etomidate Cartridges Seized, Visitors Undergo Urine Tests
During the raid, officers seized several cartridges suspected of containing etomidate. Two used cartridges were discovered inside the discotheque's restroom. This discovery reinforced suspicions surrounding the circulation of etomidate among nightclub visitors.
All visitors were subsequently instructed to undergo urine testing. The head of the operations team, Police Adjunct Senior Commissioner (AKBP) Ivan, stated that patrons clearing inspection could resume their activities. 'I ask all ladies and gentlemen to submit to urine tests. If everything is fine, please feel free to proceed,' he said.
Consequently, at least nine individuals tested positive for etomidate and crystal methamphetamine (sabu). They were promptly transported on a bus belonging to the National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) for further investigation. Etomidate is an anesthetic substance that has recently been abused as a narcotic, frequently packaged in vape cartridges or e-liquids.
Operation Continues to PIK 2 Nightclub
Following the raid on the Penjaringan discotheque early Saturday, the joint Bareskrim and BNN operation moved to a nightclub in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 area, Kosambi, Tangerang Regency, Banten, on Sunday (18/10/2026) at 02:40 WIB.
According to detikcom observations on the scene, officers uncovered multiple cartridge pods while inspecting visitors and club premises. They also found two packets of contraceptives and instructed several visitors to undergo urine testing.
During the preliminary inspection, officers discovered three Chinese foreign nationals and two Indonesian women in possession of cartridge pods. Officers subsequently checked five other men and three other women, and all inspected patrons were likewise instructed to undergo urine testing.
This series of raids forms part of sustained enforcement measures against the growing distribution of etomidate across nightlife entertainment venues. Previously, Bareskrim and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (Bea Cukai) dismantled the smuggling of 5 kilograms of etomidate and an illicit vape laboratory in North Jakarta.
