Extortion Caught on Camera Becomes Viral on Social Media
A man named Royan, commonly known as "Gayung," allegedly extorted a car driver on Jalan Raya Citapen, Cihampelas Subdistrict, West Bandung Regency. The act of gangsterism was caught on camera and went viral on social media, sparking outrage among netizens.
The incident began when a victim named Anin, an employee of Rabbani, and her entourage were traveling from Cililin toward Cimahi after conducting a working visit. Along the way, a man suddenly tried to stop the car and asked for a cigarette.
After his demand was refused, the man chased the victim’s car twice, first in the Cihampelas area and continuing to Citapen and Batujajar. During the second chase, the perpetrator struck the driver's side window with his bare hands, hitting the rearview mirror and breaking its bracket.
Suspect Flees, Police Launch Manhunt
Cililin Police Chief Iptu Isman Rusmandijanto confirmed that the incident took place in Cihampelas Subdistrict, correcting initial reports that stated the location was in Batujajar. Police identified the perpetrator based on information from a number of witnesses.
Members of the Cililin Sector Police have visited Royan's residence in the Citapen area. However, when the officers arrived, the alleged perpetrator was no longer at home and is suspected to have fled. Investigation and pursuit efforts are ongoing to ensure the suspect is apprehended soon.
Police have yet to obtain a full chronology of events because the victim has only just filed an official report at the Cililin Police Sector. Authorities are still gathering statements from a number of witnesses at the scene and have pledged to thoroughly investigate the case.
Dedi Mulyadi Outraged, Demands Perpetrators Be Arrested
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi was also angered by the alleged extortion incident. The number one person in West Java moved quickly to hunt down the perpetrator and expressed confidence that the suspect would soon be arrested by the authorities.
Dedi Mulyadi is known for frequently stepping in directly to handle cases of thuggery and illegal levies in his region. Previously, he also took firm action against rogue Bekasi Transportation Agency (Dishub) officials who extorted truck drivers.
Police have urged Royan, also known as Gayung, to be cooperative and surrender immediately to undergo the investigation process. The police emphasized that they will not remain idle and will take firm action against any perpetrators of criminal acts who disturb public peace, particularly road users.
