Klaten Regent Reportedly Detained by KPK on Thursday Morning

Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reportedly conducted a sting operation — known locally as OTT — in Klaten Regency, Central Java, on Thursday morning (15/10/2026). Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo was said to be among those detained in the operation.

Reports circulating in local media said the KPK team arrived at the regent's official residence at around 7:00 AM local time with two vehicles. At around 8:15 AM, Hamenang left the residence with the team for the Klaten municipal police headquarters, arriving at around 8:25 AM.

The questioning reportedly took place at the Satya Haprabu hall of the Klaten police headquarters. Several officials from regional government agencies (OPD) within the Klaten administration were also said to be undergoing questioning by the KPK team.

No Official Statement from the KPK Yet

As of this article's publication, neither the KPK leadership nor its spokesperson had issued an official statement about the activity in Klaten. It also remains unconfirmed whether the KPK team's activity was a sting operation or another form of law enforcement action.

The subject of the questioning, the identities of the officials examined, and the case underlying the operation have also not been verified. VIVA Jogja reported that the regent's official residence on Jalan Pemuda appeared deserted on Thursday afternoon — the courtyard gate and the pendopo doors were closed, with no officers visible at the guard post.

Two vehicles, a Toyota Innova and a Toyota Rush, were seen parked in the residence's courtyard. However, the owners and users of the two vehicles remain unknown, as does any link to the reported KPK detention.

The KPK's Second Sting Operation This Week After the BNPB Case

If confirmed, the Klaten operation would be the KPK's second sting operation this week. On Tuesday (13/10/2026), the KPK raided officials at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) over alleged corruption in disaster emergency funds (DSP).

The BNPB operation led to five people being named suspects, including the agency's Sub-Directorate Head for Aid and Emergency Management and Commitment-Making Officer Gabriel Purwaka Sigit, as well as Bima Setiawan — an expert staffer who is also the younger brother of the BNPB chief.

Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo is a politician of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), serving as Klaten Regent for the 2025-2030 term. The latest developments in the KPK's Klaten operation are still awaiting an official explanation from the anti-graft body.
