Persib Win Lifts Indonesia's League Ranking

Persib Bandung's victory over The Cong-Viettel brought double good news for Indonesian football. Besides topping Group E of the AFC Champions League Two (ACL Two) 2026/2027, Maung Bandung also lifted the Indonesian league's competition ranking to 16th in Asia according to Footy Ranking.

Persib won 1-0 against the Vietnamese side in the Group E matchday two fixture at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Bandung Regency, on Wednesday (14/10/2026) evening local time. The only goal came from Mariano Peralta via a penalty late in the first half, after he was fouled by Viettel defender Kyle Colonna inside the box.

The match was heated and saw two red cards in the second half: Viettel's Paulinho in the 68th minute and Persib midfielder Marc Klok in the 74th. The result leaves Persib perfect with 6 points from two matches, ahead of Melbourne Victory, The Cong-Viettel, and FC Seoul in the Group E standings.

Coefficient Math: 27,759 Points

The impact of the win goes beyond three points. According to Footy Ranking, the extra 1,000 points from Persib's victory take the Indonesian league's total coefficient to 27,759 points, with 3,950 points accumulated specifically in the 2026/27 season.

The surge lifts Indonesia three places, from 19th to 16th among Asia's best competitions. Indonesia also leapfrogged three countries at once: Oman, Bahrain, and Cambodia. In the AFC East Region split, Indonesia now sits 9th after displacing Cambodia.

Long Road Ahead: Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore

Despite the three-place jump, plenty of work remains. Indonesia still trails Vietnam by four places and Malaysia by seven. The gap to Singapore stands at 7,329 points, so consistency from Indonesian clubs in Asian competitions is key.

The association ranking determines Indonesia's club slot allocation in AFC competitions in coming seasons. As long as Indonesian representatives keep delivering positive results on the continental stage, the chance to earn more slots stays wide open.

Persib coach Igor Tolic heaped praise on his players after the match. He said the win over Viettel came from the discipline and hard work of the entire squad, even though they had to play with 10 men in the closing stages.
