Lethal Second-Round Submission

Indonesian fighter Sanjaya Hutagaol launched his ONE Championship journey with a victory over Spain's Javier Cabrera in a strawweight mixed martial arts (MMA) bout at ONE Friday Fights 175. Competing at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on Friday (10/16/2026), Sanjaya sealed the win via a rear-naked choke submission in the second round.

According to several sports media reports, Sanjaya stopped Cabrera at 2:52 of round two. He successfully slammed Cabrera to the canvas, took his opponent's back, and locked in a choke until the Spanish fighter submitted. In the opening round, Sanjaya was pressured by long-range strikes and heavy kicks from Cabrera, who held an 11-centimeter height advantage, but he persistently closed the distance to bring the fight to the ground.

Ending Indonesia's Victory Drought

This victory marks the first positive result for an Indonesian fighter in ONE Championship since Adrian Mattheis defeated Zelang Zhaxi in February 2023. Since then, multiple Indonesian fighters, including Eko Roni Saputra and Susanti Ndapataka, had failed to secure victories in the promotion.

The result also improves Sanjaya's professional record to six wins and one loss. All six victories for the fighter nicknamed "Banteng Toba" (Toba Bull) have come via rear-naked choke—a signature technique that proved decisive once again in his international debut. The sole defeat of his career occurred in 2023 when he was caught in an armbar by Budi Setiawan.

Next Steps Toward a Main Roster Contract

Sanjaya made a name for himself in One Pride MMA before breaking onto the international stage. His last victory prior to this debut came in November 2025, when he forced his opponent to submit via a first-round rear-naked choke.

Defeating Cabrera—who entered the fight with an undefeated 3-0 record—provides crucial momentum for Sanjaya as he pursues a contract as a primary ONE Championship athlete. For Indonesian MMA, the victory serves as a vital turning point after more than three years without a win on the global stage.
