Chaos at Half-Time: Flares Thrown at BIS
Clashes between supporters broke out in the Super League derby between Persita Tangerang and Persija Jakarta at Banten International Stadium (BIS), Serang, Banten, on Saturday (17/10/2026). The incident occurred during the half-time break in the stadium's North and South Stands.
According to several reports, fans of both clubs threw flares at each other as tensions boiled over. Dozens of Persita supporters even stormed down to the edge of the pitch, rendering conditions inside the stadium unsafe. A smaller clash had actually been triggered in the south sector while the match was still underway, but stewards managed to calm the fans swiftly.
Match officials and several Persija squad representatives moved quickly to defuse the heated situation. As a result, the second-half kick-off had to be delayed by around 20 minutes until supporters of both teams were calmed and the match could resume.
Persita Edge Persija in Dramatic 3-2 Win
Beyond the chaos, the week-5 Super League 2026/2027 match was intense and dramatic. The first half ended 1-1 after Persija took the lead through Fabio Calonego in the 18th minute and Persita equalised before the break.
The second half, delayed by the supporter incident, remained fiercely contested. Persita went ahead again through a right-foot strike by Rayco Rodriguez in the 61st minute from Pablo Ganet's assist. Shin Tae-yong's Persija levelled at 2-2 through an Alexander Jeremejeff penalty in the 74th minute, awarded by the referee after consulting VAR.
Just as the match seemed headed for a draw, Persita snatched victory in the 90+5th minute. Hokky Caraka, escaping the offside trap, charged down the right side of Persija's defence and delivered a perfect pass to Aleksa Andrejic, who made no mistake from close range. Final score: 3-2 to the hosts.
Police Escort 30 Jakmania Buses to Jakarta Toll Gate
Serang City Police chief Senior Commissioner Yudha Satria said police had anticipated further escalation after the match. Officers directly escorted 30 buses carrying Jakmania to the toll gate toward Jakarta to ensure their safety.
The evacuation order was changed from the original plan: at the supporters' urgent request, Persija fans were evacuated first, followed by Persita's. Officers remained on standby until all spectators had left the stadium area in an orderly manner. The situation returned to normal once the escort was complete, with no further incidents recorded.
Persija coach Shin Tae-yong expressed his disappointment over the incident. He stressed that supporters should focus on backing the team, not on causing trouble. "This kind of thing must not happen again," said Shin. The defeat did not dislodge Persija from the top of the table with 12 points from five matches, while Persita climbed to third with 11 points.
