Viral on Bogor's Angkot 03

A street busker identified by the initials AL (25) was taken into custody by the Satreskrim (Criminal Investigation Unit) of Polresta Bogor Kota (Bogor City Police Department) after a video showing him forcefully asking for money from passengers on an angkot (public minivan) went viral on social media. The incident occurred on angkot route 03 serving the BTM (Bogor Trade Mall) to Bogor Station route on Sunday afternoon (10/18/2026).

In the circulating video, AL distributed six envelopes to six passengers after finishing his singing. He then asked for the envelopes back with money inside while staring intensely at the passengers—behavior suspected to be a form of intimidation. The busker was also seen objecting to being recorded and reprimanded the person filming, Zahra (22).

Arrested Later That Night

Bogor City Police's Head of Public Relations Section, Second Police Inspector (Ipda) Imam, confirmed that AL was apprehended on Sunday night (10/18/2026) around the Town Square on Jalan Kapten Muslihat, Bogor City, shortly after the video spread widely. 'The perpetrator has been secured by the Sat Reskrim of Bogor Police,' he stated when confirmed by journalists on Monday (10/19/2026).

According to Imam, demanding back envelopes filled with money caused discomfort and fear among passengers. AL was reportedly cooperative during his arrest and admitted to carrying out the act to buy food.

The short video rapidly spread across various social media platforms and sparked outrage among netizens. Many felt that demanding money forcefully in confined public spaces like an angkot falls into the category of extortion rather than mere busking. Others highlighted the courage of Zahra in recording the event as evidence for reporting to the police.

Rehabilitated by Social Services and Satpol PP

Police stated they will coordinate with Dinsos (Social Services Agency) and Satpol PP (Civil Service Police Unit) to provide rehabilitation and guidance for AL. This case once again highlights the phenomenon of buskers in angkots who often cause public unrest—on one hand serving as a livelihood, but on the other potentially compromising safety and comfort in public transportation.

Bogor City Police urged the public to continue actively reporting any occurrences that could potentially disrupt security and public order so they can be followed up immediately.

The phenomenon of buskers coercing passengers is not new in Bogor City. The Department of Transportation alongside the police had repeatedly conducted enforcement operations, yet similar practices often resurface. Police hope this firm action will have a deterrent effect while opening pathways for rehabilitation so that the perpetrator can transition to more decent employment.
