Isco's Penalty Makes the Difference
Real Betis continued their perfect start to the 2026/2027 Champions League. At the Estadio de La Cartuja, early Thursday (22/10/2026) WIB, Los Verdiblancos edged Feyenoord 1-0 on league-phase matchday 3.
Betis dominated the first half. Abde Ezzalzouli and Troy Parrott took turns threatening, but goalkeeper Tjark Ernst was heroic — including a superb stop to deny Marc Bartra's stinging strike from distance. Feyenoord actually had a golden chance through Gjivai Zechiel, but he blazed over from six yards.
The deadlock was broken in the 58th minute. The referee pointed to the spot after Abde forced Jeremiah St. Juste into a handball inside the area. Isco stepped up and made no mistake, sending Ernst the wrong way. The goal made the captain the first Real Betis player to score in consecutive Champions League matches.
Valles Stands Tall, Feyenoord Frustrated
Trailing, Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Feyenoord raised the intensity and pressed higher. Anis Hadj Moussa was a constant threat on the flank, but goalkeeper Alvaro Valles stood tall — he denied Bartra from close range late on and kept his clean sheet intact until the final whistle.
The win gave Real Betis a perfect nine points from three league-phase matches, with only one defeat in their last nine games in all competitions. Feyenoord, meanwhile, dropped outside the top 24 and lost both of their Spanish away ties this season.
