Baldé Fires Brest Ahead, Giroud Levels from the Spot

LOSC Lille were held to a 1-1 draw by Stade Brestois on matchday seven of Ligue 1 at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in the early hours of Sunday (18/10/2026). The result saw Les Dogues miss the chance to go top of the table, although they still climbed to second place, leapfrogging Monaco.

The opener came from Mama Baldé in the sixth minute. From Joris Chotard's corner, Gautier Lloris' scuffed effort deflected to Baldé, who beat goalkeeper Orlando Gill to put Brest 1-0 ahead.

Lille equalised in the 64th minute through an Olivier Giroud penalty. Bradley Locko fouled Ethan Mbappé inside the box, and Giroud coolly converted from the spot. It was Giroud's first goal since the opening week of the season.

After going behind, Lille immediately raised the tempo. Les Dogues dominated possession and pushed Brest back through the wings, but wasteful finishing meant they had to wait until the second half to level the score.

Selvik's Wall Denies Lille a Comeback

Lille dominated long stretches of the match and created several dangerous chances, but Brest goalkeeper Egil Selvik was outstanding. The Norwegian shot-stopper denied multiple home efforts and was named man of the match by Flashscore.

Lille kept pushing for a winner, yet Brest's disciplined defending and Selvik's alertness kept the score at 1-1 until the final whistle.

A home draw was clearly not the target for a heavily favoured side like Lille. Two dropped points could prove decisive in what promises to be a fiercely contested title race this season.

Lille Up to Second, Brest Solid Away from Home

The draw lifted Lille to second in the standings with a record of four wins, two draws and one defeat from seven matches. The hosts also preserved an unbeaten run of four home games.

For Brest, a point at Lille's ground underlined their away consistency — just one defeat from four away matches this season. The result keeps their positive early-season momentum intact.
