Juku Eja's First Victory

BANTUL — PSM Makassar finally ended their winless streak in the BRI Super League 2026/2027. Visiting Stadion Sultan Agung in Bantul on Friday afternoon (16/10/2026) WIB, the team nicknamed Juku Eja defeated hosts PSIM Yogyakarta 2-1 in the fifth round of the competition.

This victory was hard‑won. PSM had to finish the match with ten players after captain Dušan Lagator received a straight red card in the 79th minute, but Darije Kalezic’s side managed to hold onto the lead until the final whistle.

This result ends PSM’s negative streak, which had previously drawn 3‑3 with Arema FC, tied 2‑2 with Persita Tangerang, and then suffered a heavy 0‑3 defeat to PSS Sleman early in the season.

Two quick goals in the second half.

The first half ended goalless. PSM created two dangerous chances — Luka Bulatovic’s shot in the 17th minute rose over the crossbar, while Fahrul Aditia’s header in the 42nd minute met a cross that veered to the left side of PSIM’s goal, guarded by Cahya Supriadi.

The deadlock was broken five minutes after the restart. Fahrul Aditia gave PSM the lead in the 50th minute with a low left-footed shot that the PSIM goalkeeper failed to stop, capitalizing on a quick counter‑attack built from the midfield.

The visitors' lead grew in the 66th minute. Starting from a pass by Rizky Eka during a counter-attack, Stefan Jevtoski controlled the ball before firing a shot that rattled PSIM's net, making the score 2-0 for Juku Eja.

Red Cards and Penalties for PSIM

Disaster struck PSM in the 79th minute when captain Dušan Lagator received a straight red card from the referee, forcing the visitors to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match. With the numerical advantage, PSIM, managed by Jean-Paul van Gastel, intensified their attacking efforts.

The home side’s pressure yielded a penalty. Ze Valente, who moved forward as the executor, successfully carried out his task in the 82nd minute to cut the deficit to 1‑2 and revive Laskar Mataram’s hopes.

However, until the final whistle blew, PSIM failed to equalize. The back line of PSM, guarded by goalkeeper Muhammad Ardiansyah, held firm against the late‑minute onslaught, securing the team's first three points of the season.

PSIM Falls, PSM Faces Persebaya

An additional three points took PSM to five points from five matches, moving them into the mid‑table of the provisional BRI Super League 2026/2027 standings. The win provides crucial momentum to improve the Makassar‑based team's position.

Conversely, the home defeat has deepened PSIM’s slump. The side, nicknamed Laskar Mataram, has yet to secure a single win—stalled at one point from five matches and sunk into the relegation zone.

PSM is next scheduled to face a tough match against Persebaya Surabaya on Thursday (22/10/2026), while PSIM must quickly turn things around if it does not want to sink further to the bottom of the table.
