20 People Detained in Klaten and Jakarta
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) detained 20 people in a sting operation (OTT) involving the Klaten Regent, Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, on Thursday (15/10/2026). The covert operation was carried out in two areas, namely Klaten Regency, Central Java, and Jakarta.
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said 19 people were detained in Klaten and underwent questioning at the Klaten Police, while another person was detained in Jakarta and questioned at the KPK's Red and White Building. Those detained came from various elements, ranging from state officials, civil servants (ASN) within the Klaten Regency Government and the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK), to private parties.
In the operation, investigators also seized cash initially estimated at Rp1 billion. "The counting is still ongoing. The preliminary estimate is around one billion," said Budi Prasetyo, Thursday (15/10/2026).
Head of BPK Central Java Also Caught
The main highlight of this operation was the detention of the Head of the BPK Representative Office for Central Java Province, Ahmad Luthfi H. Rahmatullah. In total, two ASNs from the BPK environment were caught in the sting operation. Budi confirmed the arrest of the BPK official when giving a statement at the KPK's Red and White Building in Jakarta.
The KPK is investigating allegations that funds were given by the district government to individuals at the BPK in connection with the regional financial examination or audit process. "In addition, there are allegations of payments made by the regent to individuals at the BPK related to the audit," said Budi.
This case is also suspected to be related to payments received by state officials in connection with the procurement of goods and services, licensing, as well as other receipts from regional government apparatus organizations (OPD). All of these allegations are still under investigation and have not become legal conclusions.
Regent Taken to Jakarta at Midnight
Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo arrived at the KPK's Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday (16/10/2026) morning to undergo a follow-up examination. He departed from Klaten on Thursday night by train at around 22:30 WIB, after previously signing a letter of authorization.
Before leaving the inspection location in Klaten, Hamenang apologized to the public. "I apologize if there was any wrongdoing toward the people of Klaten," he said.
The KPK is still continuing to delve into the role of each of the 20 people who were secured. The complete identities of all parties and their roles are still awaiting an official explanation from the anti-corruption agency.
