The Ukrainian military claimed to have launched a missile attack on the Borisoglebsk air base in the Voronezh region, Russia, on the night of 14–15 October 2026. The attack used a domestic long-range cruise missile called "Long Neptune" — a development version of the famous anti-ship missile sinking the Moscow aircraft carrier in April 2022.

According to the Ukrainian General Staff, the target was six Su-34M fighter jets called being loaded with air bombs and ready to attack Ukraine. The general staff said the six aircraft suffered damage at various levels. The claim was reinforced by satellite images before and after the attack published by the AviVector channel and verified by Reuters — the image shows evidence of destruction: four jets were destroyed in total and two were severely damaged. A number of pro-Russian Telegram channels also acknowledged the existence of such losses.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the success of the operation through his upload on X. He thanked the Ukrainian Navy soldiers for the accuracy of the attack and insisted that such long-range attacks were a legitimate response to Russian terror against Ukraine.

The Russian government has not officially confirmed or denied the attack on the Borisoglebsk base until the news was published. The Russian Defense Ministry its retaliatory attacks on the Naftogaz gas facility in Poltava and the Izmail port in southern Ukraine on the same night.

It is important to distinguish between the official claims of Ukraine and independent confirmations.Visual evidence in the form of satellite images and recognition of the pro-Russian Telegram channels give an additional weight to the claims of Kiev, but without the official statement of Moscow or direct observations of third parties, the scale of the damage definitely still needs to be further investigated.

The base, which served as the headquarters of the 783th aviation training center and the 105th aviation division — which operated the Su-34, Su-35S, and Su-30SM — was once attacked by Ukraine in October 2024 against ammunition depots and in July 2025 damaging the base infrastructure.

The attack on Borisoglebsk took place amid the collapse of an energy ceasefire proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.Zelensky said the ceasefire had ended and Ukraine re-launched attacks on Russian oil plants — an escalationly sparking tensions with Washington.

Ukraine also accused SpaceX of restricting Starlink’s services to disrupt its drone mission. On the other hand, the United States is said to threaten to block the sharing of intelligence if Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure continue.
