Arrested in the Luxury Saphan Sung Estate

Thai immigration police arrested a 37-year-old Chinese man named Wu (reported as Wu Chaoshuai) at a luxury housing estate in Bangkok's Saphan Sung district on Friday (16/10/2026). The arrest was reported on Saturday (17/10/2026) by Thai media outlet Khaosod English.

Wu is wanted by Chinese authorities over alleged involvement in a transnational crime network, including money laundering and a loan-sharking syndicate. Investigators said the network processed more than 500 million yuan — about US$75 million — through more than 133 bank accounts.

According to police, Wu recruited people to open bank accounts, seized their ATM cards and login credentials, and handed that access over to laundering groups. He is also accused of running cryptocurrency and foreign-currency exchange services for criminal groups, and of arranging visas for members of international crime networks.

Three Years on the Run with Forged Documents

To evade capture for more than three years, Wu allegedly used forged residence documents, changed vehicle registration plates, and moved frequently. His Thai visa had expired more than three years ago — estimated to have lapsed in late 2022 or early 2023.

In Thailand, Wu has been charged with overstaying under Section 81 of the Thai Immigration Act, with media reporting his illegal stay at nearly four years.

Facing Deportation to China

Thai authorities said Wu will go through immigration proceedings first before being repatriated to China. In his home country, he faces an outstanding arrest warrant issued by Chinese authorities over his alleged role in the loan-sharking and money-laundering network.

The arrest comes amid escalating joint US and Southeast Asian operations against crypto-fueled crime rings operating in the region.
