Viral CCTV Footage Leads to Swift Arrest

BEKASI — The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Bekasi City Metropolitan Police (Polres Metro Bekasi Kota), together with the South Bekasi precinct police (Polsek Bekasi Selatan), has arrested a man identified as DF (42) on suspicion of sexually harassing a schoolgirl in Kayuringin Jaya, South Bekasi, Bekasi City. The arrest was made on Friday (10/16/2026).

The incident involving DF occurred on Wednesday (10/14/2026). At the time, the victim — a sixth-grade elementary school student — was walking in the Kayuringin Jaya area. The suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, allegedly approached the girl and groped her chest before speeding away.

The act was recorded by a surveillance camera (CCTV) near the scene. The footage later circulated widely on social media and sparked public outrage. Following up on the viral video, police launched a joint investigation that led to the suspect's identification and arrest.

The head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, Police Commissioner Verdika Bagus Prasetya, confirmed the arrest. "That's right, we have secured the perpetrator," Verdika said in a statement on Friday (10/16/2026), stressing that every report of an alleged crime is followed up seriously.

Suspect Handed Over to Women and Children Protection Unit

Following his arrest, DF was handed over to the Women and Children Protection and Anti-Trafficking Unit (Satres PPA and PPO) for further, objective questioning that can stand up in court.

Although the suspect is in custody, the investigation continues to establish the full picture, gather evidence, and determine the legal process based on the examination results. Police have inspected the crime scene and reviewed the CCTV recordings as part of the probe. Officers also questioned several witnesses around the location to complete the investigation dossier.

Police Chief Stresses Victim Protection

Bekasi City Metropolitan Police Chief, Police Grand Commissioner Putu Kholis Aryana, emphasized that handling sexual violence cases must go beyond the legal process and prioritize the victim's safety, dignity, and rights.

"Incidents like this must not be taken lightly, as they can cause psychological harm to the victim," he stressed. He added that the police presence aims to ensure victims feel safe and face no pressure during the legal proceedings.

Police also urge the public not to hesitate to report if they experience or witness similar acts, for the sake of everyone's safety.
