A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck the region of Bogor, West Java, on Thursday (15 October 2026) at 17:58 local time. According to official data from the Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the center of the earthquake was on land, 26 kilometers southwest of Bogor City, at the coordinates of 6.73 South latitude and 106,61 Fair East. This information was released by BMKG through the real-time earthquake data integration system.

These earthquakes are shallow with a depth of only 5 kilometers. The shallow earthquakes are generally more noticeable on the surface despite their relatively small magnitude, because the distance from the source of the earthquake to the settlement is very close.

BMKG recorded shocks felt with intensity IV MMI in the area of Pamijahan and Kabandungan, Bogor district. On the scale IV MMI, vibrations were felt real inside the house and light objects hanging.

As of this writing, there were no reports of significant damage or casualties caused by the earthquake. BMKG said this earthquake information was passed on to the public as part of the early warning system. Given that the center of the earthquake was on land and shallow, this earthquake is not likely to cause a tsunami.

The BMKG urged the public to remain calm but alert to the possibility of an aftershock. The public was asked to check the condition of the building before entering the house and only follow official information from the BMKG to avoid false news. The earthquakes in the Bogor region are not new — the area is in the active Cesar zone, including Cesar Citarik, which has triggered similar shallow earthquakes in previous years.

The earthquakes in the Bogor region are not new — the area is in the active Caesar zone, including Cesar Citarik, which had triggered similar shallow earthquakes in previous years. In April 2025, an earthquake of magnitude 4.1 also shook Bogor with minor damage to a number of residential homes.

The IV MMI scale means that vibrations are felt real inside the house: light objects hanging swing and it feels like there is a large truck crossing. Though it does not cause significant structural damage, such shallow earthquakes often shock citizens because they are accompanied by loud noises due to high-frequency vibrations near the surface.
