Julio Cesar's Goal Makes the Difference

Persib Bandung secured three important points after defeating Persik Kediri with a narrow 1-0 score in the fifth week of the 2026/2027 Super League. Playing at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Soreang, Bandung Regency, on Sunday night (18/10/2026) WIB, Maung Bandung sealed the victory through a lone goal from substitute defender Julio Cesar in the 77th minute.

The victory felt crucial for Igor Tolic's squad. Before the match, Persib and Persik had both collected seven points from four matches, making this duel a battle for position in the Super League 2026/2027 provisional standings.

First Half: Persik Goal Disallowed by VAR

Persib took the attacking initiative right from the opening whistle. Coach Igor Tolic fielded Fitrah Maulana as goalkeeper, supported by Eliano Reijnders, Sandy Walsh, Danijel Loncar, and Patricio Matricardi in defense. However, Persik Kediri played disciplined football and repeatedly threatened through fast counterattacks.

Persik briefly celebrated a goal in the 41st minute when Park Jun-heong's header beat Fitrah Maulana. However, the referee disallowed the goal after reviewing VAR, as the player was in an offside position.

Persib nearly broke the deadlock just before halftime. Luka Menalo's fierce strike only rattled the crossbar, leaving the score goalless at the break.

Second Phase: Julio Cesar Breaks the Stalemate

In the second half, Persib intensified their attacking efforts in search of a breakthrough goal. The deadlock was finally broken in the 77th minute when substitute defender Julio Cesar scored to give the Blue Prince a 1-0 lead.

In the remaining minutes of the match, including stoppage time, Persik Kediri pushed hard to close the gap. However, Persib's defense remained solid, holding on to their narrow lead until the final whistle blew.

Impact on the Standings

The three additional points lifted Persib’s position in the provisional Super League 2026/2027 standings. Maung Bandung have now collected 10 points from five matches played.

For Persik, this defeat halted the positive momentum they had built at the start of the season. The Macan Putih (White Tigers) remain on seven points and must bounce back quickly in their next match. This victory serves as valuable capital for Maung Bandung ahead of a stretch of tough matches in the domestic competition.
