Trailing Twice, Equalizing Twice

Persebaya Surabaya had to settle for a point against PSS (Sleman Football Association) Sleman following a 2-2 draw in week five of the 2026/2027 Super League at Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium, Surabaya, on Sunday (18/10/2026) afternoon. The match, which kicked off at 15:30 WIB (Western Indonesian Time), delivered four goals and late drama for the hosts in the final moments.

Visiting side PSS Sleman opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Melvyn Lorenzen netted a stunning free-kick that went beyond the reach of Persebaya goalkeeper Ernando Ari. The 0-1 scoreline held despite continuous pressure from Persebaya through Toni Firmansyah, Jefferson Silva, and Alex Martins.

The equalizer awaited by the Gelora Bung Tomo crowd arrived in the 36th minute. Miguel Pinto headed home Toni Firmansyah's corner kick to level the score at 1-1. The score remained tied until halftime after several opportunities for both sides failed to materialize into goals.

Early Second-Half Goal and Stoppage-Time Drama

Entering the second half, PSS shocked the home team once again. Hiromu Tanaka scored in the 61st minute to restore Super Elja's (Super Java Eagle) lead to 1-2. Trailing at home, Persebaya increased attacking pressure and brought on several substitutes to hunt for another equalizer.

Late drama unfolded as Miguel Pinto once again rescued the Green Crocodiles by scoring his second goal in the 90th minute from a right-wing cross. That stoppage-time goal saved Persebaya from a stinging defeat in front of their home supporters.

The referee blew the final whistle with the match tied at 2-2. Over the course of the match, the referee also issued yellow cards to Cloudio Mutzi in the 19th minute and Jefferson in the 23rd minute.

Pinto the Hero as PSS Miss Out on Three Points

Miguel Pinto's brace proved to be the match's standout highlight. The Persebaya forward twice saved his team from defeat, courtesy of a first-half header and a dramatic finish in stoppage time. PSS Sleman saw an almost certain victory slip away in the closing seconds.

For PSS Sleman, the draw felt like a defeat. The visitors led twice and held the upper hand, but failed to preserve their advantage until the final whistle. The single point leaves both sides sharing the spoils in week five of the 2026/2027 Super League.
