Approval Stagnates at 55.3 Percent

Poltracking Indonesia has released its latest national survey measuring public satisfaction and trust in the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The survey was conducted from September 30 to October 7, 2026, and announced via a Poltracking TV broadcast on Monday (10/19/2026).

The findings showed public approval recorded at 55.3 percent. That figure is virtually unchanged from the previous survey in August 2026, which recorded 55.1 percent. A total of 40.9 percent of respondents expressed dissatisfaction, while 3.8 percent abstained or did not respond.

Poltracking Indonesia Executive Director Hanta Yuda Rasyid assessed that the trend over the past two months reflects stability. 'August 2026 to October 2026 spans two months, but trend-wise it is stable. It hasn't increased, but neither has it decreased,' he stated during the survey broadcast quoted on Monday.

Targeted Aid and MBG Drive Satisfaction

Poltracking detailed the reasons cited by respondents who reported satisfaction. The top two indicators were well-targeted government assistance (16.5 percent) and the Free Nutritious Meal (Makan Bergizi Gratis or MBG) program (15.0 percent). Other reasons, such as economic stability (6.9 percent), proven performance (6.4 percent), and equitable access to education (6.1 percent), fell below 10 percent.

Conversely, dissatisfied respondents primarily pointed to economic instability (18.9 percent), the high cost of basic commodities (15.4 percent), and social assistance deemed poorly targeted (14.3 percent). According to Poltracking, these three economic issues represent the administration's biggest homework.

Hanta Yuda expressed hope that the government would soon improve performance as it enters its third year. 'To put it optimistically, the government has succeeded in maintaining public satisfaction, but speaking more cautiously, this is stagnation, meaning breakthroughs are needed to raise this satisfaction rate,' he noted.

Downside Trend Since Earlier This Year

Despite remaining stable over the last two months, the public approval trend for the Prabowo-Gibran government has in fact fallen sharply since the beginning of the year. In March 2026, satisfaction stood at 74.1 percent, dropped to 72.2 percent in May, plunged to 58.4 percent in July, before stabilizing in the 55 percent range in August and October.

Poltracking previously identified five trigger factors behind the decline: economic pressure and weakening purchasing power, issues surrounding priority program implementation, subpar ministerial performance and weak government communication, declining perceptions of law enforcement and anti-corruption efforts, and weakening checks and balances.

Several other polling agencies recorded varying figures for a similar period. An SMRC (Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting) survey conducted on October 1ΓÇô10, 2026, recorded an approval rating of only 44.5 percent, whereas a PPI (Indonesian Public Opinion) survey held from September 26 to October 6, 2026, recorded 65.4 percent. The discrepancies are influenced by differing field dates, question phrasing, and methodologies used by each agency.
