Case Review Today

JAKARTA — The Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) is scheduled to hold a special case review regarding a report on the alleged forgery of an educational equivalency certificate (suket) belonging to Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka on Wednesday (21/10/2026) at 10:00 AM WIB (Western Indonesia Time).

The schedule was confirmed by the complainant's legal counsel, Ahmad Khozinudin, following his visit to the Bareskrim Polri Building on Monday (19/10/2026). A case review is an essential phase in the investigative process to scrutinize evidence and determine the direction of the case.

Object of Contention: Certificate Number 9149

The primary subject of the complaint is Equivalency Certificate Number 9149 issued by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen). The certificate served as the sole educational requirement document submitted by Gibran when running as vice president in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

In his report, Khozinudin named two parties: Kemendikdasmen as the issuer for allegedly producing a forged letter or a document containing false information, and Gibran for allegedly utilizing the document to satisfy candidacy requirements. According to AFU.id, the report was followed up as a Public Complaint (Dumas) for preliminary clarification and evidence cross-checking; National Police Chief (Kapolri) Suyudi Ario Seto stated on Friday (16/10/2026) that the case is currently under investigation.

Background of the Report

The report was lodged with Bareskrim on Wednesday (7/10/2026) by the National Ethics, Morals, and Integrity Enforcement Advocacy Team represented by Khozinudin on behalf of two complainants, Edy Syamsudin and Riyadi. Earlier, on Saturday (3/10/2026), Gibran had also been reported by the People's Lawsuit Alliance and the Champion Lawyers Defending the Ummah.

Khozinudin noted that the suspicion of criminal conduct was reinforced following the legal considerations of the Constitutional Court (MK) in Decision Number 01/PHP.PNS/XIV/2026, which according to his interpretation indicates that Gibran holds neither a Senior High School (SMA) nor a Vocational High School (SMK) diploma. He also took issue with the Certificate of Attendance from UTS Insearch used as the basis for equivalency, arguing that the certificate does not constitute proof of graduation, and added that Gibran faces a potential maximum prison sentence of six years.

Responses from the Parties

National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto confirmed that the case is ongoing. "It is still in the investigative process," Suyudi remarked when met at the Indonesia Stock Exchange Building, Jakarta, Friday (16/10/2026). Khozinudin urged the National Police to examine the relevant parties and institutions requiring questioning during the investigation.

From Gibran's camp, General Chairman of Militan Gibran 08 Nusantara Andi Azwan considered the certificate controversy an administrative law matter rather than a criminal one. Meanwhile, the Central Executive Board (DPP) Chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Muhammad Iqbal, responded to the 7th President Joko Widodo's statement regarding alleged political operations behind the diploma polemic by saying that all sides should reflect and view the issue from multiple angles. As reported by Kompas TV, the alleged forgery remains to be examined by investigators and cannot yet be deemed a proven criminal offense.
