Voluntarily Handed Over, Immediately Seized

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has seized Rp250 million in cash handed over by the Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Board (PCNU) of Nias, North Sumatra. The handover took place at the KPK Red and White Building in South Jakarta on Friday (10/16/2026) and was announced by KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo on Tuesday (10/20/2026).

"There was indeed a return from a mass organization, and that returned money was also seized by investigators, one of which was the return of Rp250 million," said Budi. He emphasized that the handover was purely an initiative of the related party. "This was an initiative from the related party who handed over Rp250 million to the KPK, which was subsequently seized," he said, as quoted by Antara.

The KPK expressed appreciation for this good faith. "We express our appreciation and gratitude. Reporting and handing over funds certainly represents a form of support for the law enforcement process carried out by the KPK," Budi asserted.

The funds are currently being analyzed by investigators to trace any suspected connection to a bribery and illicit gratification case at the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) linked to the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama Congress in Jombang, East Java. "That matter is being examined, and from the returned money, investigators will certainly conduct further analysis on its connection to the case," Budi explained.

Circulating reports suggest the funds may have ties to alleged money politics at the 35th NU Congress, with some alleging they were part of monies collected by confidants of Minister of ATR/BPN Nusron Wahid. However, all such allegations remain under investigation and have not been established as legal facts of the case.

The KPK stressed that not all details regarding the review results can be disclosed publicly while the investigation is ongoing.

Can Be Returned If Unrelated to the Case

Budi outlined two possible outcomes for the seized money. If the analysis proves a link to the case, the Rp250 million will be retained as evidence for court proceedings.

Conversely, if the investigators' findings prove there is no connection to the case under review, the KPK will return the sum in full to PCNU Nias. "If during the analysis conducted by investigators it is determined that this is not linked to the case, then investigators can return it to the party concerned," Budi said.

Thus, this voluntary handover sets a precedent: mass organizations suspecting they hold problematic funds can turn them over to the KPK for verification—and are entitled to receive their money back if proven clean.
