1,193 packs and rice milling machinery seized

The National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) has seized 1,193 packages of fortified rice across five brands allegedly counterfeited by PT DTA. The confiscation was carried out during an investigation into suspected food counterfeiting, which also included a set of rice milling machinery estimated to be worth Rp1 billion.

Director of Special Economic Crimes (Dirtipideksus) at Bareskrim Polri, Police Grand Commissioner (Kombes Pol.) Suhasto, stated that investigators have questioned 12 witnesses regarding the case. The witnesses include representatives from the National Food Agency (Bapanas) as the reporting party, the director of PT DTA, and PT DTA's production head. Suhasto conveyed this during a press conference at his office on Wednesday (10/21/2026).

25 of 27 brands fail tests, causing Rp89 trillion in losses

The case began when Bapanas conducted unannounced inspections in April 2026 and collected samples of specialty rice marketed with claims of added vitamins and minerals. Out of 27 rice brands tested in the laboratory, 25 failed to meet official quality standards.

According to estimates in the report, consumer losses caused by substandard fortified rice are projected to reach Rp89 trillion throughout 2026. The breakdown of seized evidence is: 380 5-kg packs of Raja Lele (referred to by investigators as 'Dewa Tunggal Raja Lele'), 388 5-kg packs of Idola Merah Fortifikasi, 190 5-kg packs of Idola Hijau Fortifikasi, 148 5-kg packs of Cantik Manis, and 87 10-kg packs of Wijaya Kusuma.

Four reports processed, three more to follow

The uncovering of this case follows four reports submitted by Bapanas. National Police Headquarters (Mabes Polri) plans to continue investigating three additional reports and expand the probe to other companies suspected of involvement.

Head of Bareskrim Polri Asep Safrudin previously stressed that authorities will examine developments in ongoing cases, including investigations into legal entities and corporations implicated in criminal offenses.
