Formal Letter to the TNI Commander
Indonesia's Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will send a formal letter to the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) Commander regarding its investigation into alleged corruption in the use of the National Disaster Management Agency's (BNPB) Disaster Response Funds (DSP). The move follows indications that the case involves active-duty military personnel.
"We will of course formally write to the TNI Commander, because this concerns active TNI personnel," said KPK's Acting Director of Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein at the KPK's Red and White Building in Jakarta on Friday (16/10) evening.
Taufik stressed that the KPK is prioritizing a collaborative approach with the TNI in handling the case. "Our approach is collaborative so there is synergy in the handling process," he said, adding that the investigation would not be conducted separately by each institution.
Intensive Coordination with TNI Military Police
Even before the planned letter, the KPK had already coordinated intensively with the TNI Military Police (Puspom TNI). Puspom personnel were even deployed to accompany KPK investigators during the sealing of several BNPB office rooms.
"That's right, we have coordinated, including during field activities," Taufik said. Representatives of Puspom TNI's investigation unit also attended the case expositions on 13 and 14 October 2026.
Regarding the role of active-duty military personnel, Taufik confirmed that all findings would be explored further in the next stage of the investigation.
Five Suspects, Two Corruption Clusters
The case began with the KPK's sting operation (OTT) at BNPB on 13 October 2026, which netted 15 people. A day later, the KPK named five suspects and detained them for an initial 20 days.
The five suspects are Bima Setiawan (BMS), an expert staffer to the BNPB chief and brother of the former BNPB chief; Richard Erlangga (RIC), a BNPB expert staffer; Gabriel Purwaka Sigit (GPS), a commitment-making official; and two private-sector individuals, Gery Prasetiawan (GER) and Syifa Nrika Ghifarin (SNG).
The KPK uncovered two corruption clusters: a conflict of interest in emergency project procurement for 2024–2026 worth Rp148 billion, controlled by vendors affiliated with Bima — with profits allegedly used to buy PT Medela Potentia Tbk shares worth Rp30.98 billion; and bribery in the form of a Rp2.38 billion commitment fee from PT Trans Lintas Selaras.
