Cassation Officially Filed on Friday
The legal team of former Education, Culture, Research and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim has officially filed a cassation with the Supreme Court. The request was registered through the Jakarta Central District Court clerk's office on Friday (10/16/2026), targeting the Jakarta High Court's appellate ruling No. 41/Pid.Sus-TPK/2026/PT DKI.
The appellate ruling, read on September 24, 2026, had reduced Nadiem's prison sentence from 10 years to 9 years. In addition to the prison term, the ruling included a Rp1 billion fine (subsidiary 140 days in prison) and an obligation to pay Rp548.76 billion in restitution (subsidiary 6 years in prison). The appellate panel assessed state financial losses in the case at Rp1.5 trillion.
Seeks Full Acquittal and Release from House Arrest
In a press statement received by Detikcom on Saturday (10/17/2026), the legal team explained that the cassation memorandum asks the Supreme Court to annul the appellate ruling and declare Nadiem not proven guilty of both the primary and subsidiary charges. The team also asked that Nadiem be acquitted of all charges or at least released from all legal demands.
The request also covers lifting Nadiem's house arrest status and restoring his rights. On the prosecution's side, the Attorney General's Office had already filed a cassation against the 9-year verdict on October 2, 2026, arguing the ruling did not fully accommodate the prosecutors' demands. The case stems from alleged corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management (CDM) at the ministry for the 2020–2022 fiscal years.
