50,000 Poisoned, Not One Prosecuted

Public policy observer Muhammad Said Didu has launched sharp criticism over the handling of mass poisoning cases in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. Through his personal X account, he lamented that not a single party has been brought to justice.

“Around 50,000 people have been poisoned by MBG using public money - but not a single person has been prosecuted in the case,” Said Didu wrote.

He asked openly: “Are SPPG owners and employees really above the law?” The criticism adds to public pressure over the accountability of the government's flagship program.

Health Ministry Data: 50,059 Victims in 36 Provinces

The figure cited by Said Didu refers to Health Ministry surveillance data presented to House Commission IX as of September 2, 2026. A total of 50,059 people had been poisoned, from 560 mass poisoning incidents in 245 districts/cities across 36 provinces over the past two years (2025-2026).

Major cases occurred in Rembang, Sidoarjo, Agam, and Jombang. These cases are strongly suspected to have been caused by long food distribution waiting times from centralized Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) kitchens to schools, causing food to spoil before consumption.

House Urges BGN to Overhaul System and Enforce Law

With the victim count passing 50,000, House Commission IX has urged the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to immediately overhaul the system. The House is pushing for the distribution model to shift to school-based kitchens to reduce food contamination risks.

In addition, the House stressed the need for criminal law enforcement against negligent providers. As of this writing, there has been no official statement from BGN regarding follow-up on the demand or on Said Didu's criticism.
