Brazil Leads 2-0 in the First Half
The Indonesian National Futsal Team had to acknowledge the superiority of host Brazil after suffering a 0-3 defeat in the continuation match of Group A of the Copa das Nacoes de Futsal 2026. The match took place at Max Ronsenmann Arena, São José dos Pinhais, Brazil, on Friday (16/10/2026) morning WIB.
The Garuda squad put up a tight fight in the first half. Syauqi Saud threatened the Brazilian goal early in the match, while goalkeeper Ahmad Habiebie delivered a solid performance to hold off threats from the Brazilian players. Indonesia even nearly took the lead when Andarias Kareth's chance in the eighth minute was denied by the Brazilian goalkeeper.
Brazil, who patiently dismantled Indonesia's defense, finally broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through Cleber's action. Cleber's powerful shot failed to be saved by Habiebie. Approaching halftime, it was Fabinho's turn to beat Habiebie and close the first half with a 2-0 score for Brazil.
Rufino Seals Hosts' Victory
In the second half, Brazil was still able to continue its dominance. Nine minutes in, Cleber unleashed a powerful shot that Habiebie was able to parry, but Felipe Rufino pounced on the rebound to give Brazil a 3-0 lead.
Indonesia's attempt to use a power play scheme in the final three minutes did not bear fruit until the final whistle blew. This result put Brazil at the top of Group A of the 2026 Copa das Nacoes de Futsal with six points.
Indonesia sits in last place, below Cape Verde, which previously lost 2-4 to Brazil. Despite ending in defeat, the match against the world's number one team was a valuable experience for the squad coached by Hector Souto to gauge the level of play on the international stage.
Do-or-Die Match Against Cape Verde
Following that defeat, the situation facing the Garuda squad is now very simple yet full of pressure. The final Group A match against Cape Verde, scheduled to kick off on Saturday (17/10/2026) at 06:30 WIB, is certain to be a do-or-die affair.
Indonesia is required to secure an outright victory to lock in a ticket to the semifinals. Conversely, a draw or especially a loss would automatically bury Indonesia's dream while sending Tanjung Verde through to the last four. The semifinal match is scheduled for Sunday (18/10/2026) at 02.00 WIB.
