Four Unanswered Goals at the Olimpico

AS Roma enjoyed a goal feast on matchday 3 of the 2026/2027 UEFA Champions League league phase. The Giallorossi thrashed ŠK Slovan Bratislava 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, early Wednesday morning (21/10/2026) WIB. It was Roma's first Champions League win of the season, after a draw with Fenerbahce and a dramatic 3-4 defeat to Real Madrid in their previous two matches.

Roma took the initiative from the first whistle. The opener came in the 21st minute. Mario Hermoso headed the ball into the Slovan net after receiving a cross from Daniele Ghilardi, which began with a Lorenzo Pellegrini free kick. The goal broke the deadlock and gave the hosts growing confidence.

Roma's lead was doubled in the 39th minute. Nahuel Molina pounced on the rebound from a Donyell Malen shot to make it 2-0. That scoreline held until the break, with Slovan unable to stem the hosts' attacks.

After the restart, Roma refused to let up. Niccolò Pisilli made it three in the 52nd minute with an assist from Donyell Malen. Six minutes later, Malen got on the scoresheet himself from the penalty spot in the 58th minute, after Wesley was fouled by César Blackman inside the box. The 4-0 scoreline stood until the final whistle.

Pellegrini Injured, Gasperini Worried

The convincing victory came at a price. Lorenzo Pellegrini was forced off through injury in the 52nd minute and replaced by Matias Soulé. Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini admitted he is worried about the captain's condition. Pellegrini's injury was the one dark cloud on what should have been a perfect night for Roma.

The captain had actually played well before the injury, including his involvement in Hermoso's opening goal through the free kick he took. His condition will now be closely monitored ahead of Roma's busy schedule in domestic and European competitions.

Slovan Sink Deeper at the Bottom

The heavy defeat leaves Slovan Bratislava sunk deeper at the bottom of the league phase standings. Yaya Touré's side have conceded 13 goals in three matches and scored only one. After this loss, their path to the next round looks even harder.

Roma, on the other hand, are back on track. With four unanswered goals and a first win in the bag, the Giallorossi head into the remaining league-phase matches with soaring confidence.
