Sock Reprimand Ends in Assault

Lamongan — A student disciplinary issue at a Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI, Islamic elementary school) in Meluntur Village, Glagah District, Lamongan Regency, East Java, resulted in the alleged assault of the school principal. The suspected perpetrator is a student's parent, identified by the initials MS, who is reportedly an active Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) member.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning (17/10/2026) during routine disciplinary checks. Several students, including MS's child, were found not wearing socks according to school regulations. They were sent home to fetch their socks before continuing class.

However, MS's child reportedly gave an altered account to the parents upon arriving home. Enraged, MS arrived at the school and directly confronted the principal without asking for clarification. MS allegedly punched the victim in the face, causing facial swelling, bleeding, and a suspected nasal fracture. Tensions flared in the office—shattering items including drinking glasses—before local residents and fellow teachers intervened to break up the altercation.

Reported to Military Police Sub-Detachment

Before the case was brought to the Military Police Detachment (Denpom), an attempt at mediation was made at the village hall. However, the meeting failed to reach a resolution, prompting the victim to take legal action accompanied by legal counsel from the Nahdlatul Ulama Legal Aid Institute (LBH NU) of the Lamongan Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Executive Board (PCNU).

On Saturday evening at around 20:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB), the victim and the LBH NU team visited the Sub-Detachment of Military Police (Subdenpom) V/2-3 Lamongan to report the alleged assault for processing under applicable military law. The Lamongan Resort Police (Polres) also assisted the victim; Public Relations Section Head of Polres Lamongan, Police Second Inspector (Ipda) M. Hamzaid, confirmed his office escorted the victim to the Subdenpom TNI Lamongan office as part of community service.

Nur Afid Santoso, a member of the Legal Aid and Counseling Institute of Nahdlatul Ulama (LPBH NU) PCNU Lamongan who accompanied the victim, explained that the misunderstanding likely arose when the student relayed the school's reprimand to the parents. 'Every morning, the school conducts disciplinary checks on students,' he said. With the official complaint filed, the alleged assault against the MI principal in Glagah is now formally handled by the Subdenpom TNI Lamongan.

Military District Command Pledges Strict Action as Case Goes Viral

The incident first came to public attention after a local teacher posted a firsthand account on the Instagram account @lamonganupdate. The post recounted the enraged parent's arrival and the alleged beating of the principal, which left his face swollen and bleeding, quickly going viral and provoking public outcry.

Responding to the report, Military District Command (Kodim) 0812/Lamongan assured the public that it will not remain passive regarding an incident that tarnishes the military's reputation. 'We will confirm and clarify this with the alleged perpetrator (MS). If proven true, Kodim 0812 will summon the suspect and enforce strict disciplinary sanctions under military law,' emphasized Acting Intelligence Staff Officer (Pj Pasi Intel) of Kodim 0812/Lamongan, Artillery Captain (Kapten Arm) Hari. Intelligence Unit Commander (Danunit Intel) of Kodim 0812/Lamongan, Infantry Second Lieutenant (Letda Inf) Lukman, also stated that he would verify the matter with the Military Rayon Commander (Danramil) or relevant officials.

Currently, both the internal military investigation and the ongoing legal assistance are closely monitored by Polres Lamongan and the local Subdenpom. The case has captured widespread public scrutiny, underscoring concerns over the protection of educators and the strict enforcement of the law against violence in educational environments.
