Baldé Bawa Brest Ahead, Giroud Equalizes via Penalty
LOSC Lille were held to a 1-1 draw by Stade Brestois on matchday seven of Ligue 1 at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Sunday (18/10/2026) early morning WIB. The result saw Les Dogues miss the chance to climb to the top of the standings, though they still moved up to second place, overtaking Monaco.
The opening goal was scored by Mama Baldé in the sixth minute. From a Joris Chotard corner, Gautier Lloris's mishit shot bounced toward Baldé, who then deceived goalkeeper Orlando Gill to give Brest a 1-0 lead.
Lille equalized in the 64th minute through an Olivier Giroud penalty. Bradley Locko fouled Ethan Mbappé inside the box, and Giroud coolly converted from the spot. This was Giroud's first goal since the opening week of the season.
After the opening goal, Lille immediately increased their attacking intensity. Les Dogues dominated possession and pressured Brest's defense through the wings, but poor finishing forced them to wait until the second half to equalize.
Egil Selvik's Wall Thwarts Lille's Comeback
Throughout the match, Lille dominated play and created a number of dangerous chances, but Brest goalkeeper Egil Selvik delivered a heroic performance. The Norwegian keeper denied several of the hosts' shots and was named man of the match by Flashscore.
Lille kept pressing for the remainder of the match to turn things around, but Brest's disciplined defense and Selvik's alertness kept the score at 1-1 until the final whistle.
A draw at home is clearly not the result a favored squad like Lille was hoping for. Two dropped points could prove decisive in what is shaping up to be a fiercely tight title race this season.
Lille Rises to Second Place, Brest Solid Away
This draw lifted Lille to second place in the standings with a record of four wins, two draws and one defeat from seven matches. The hosts also maintained their record of four home games without defeat.
For Brest, a point at Lille's ground is proof of their away consistency — only one defeat in four away matches this season. This result maintains their positive momentum early in the campaign.
